life is unpredictable......

The issue of banning the selling of junk food by the school canteens has caused havoc among the society. According to Smith (2005), junk food is defined as any food that is unhealthy and gives no nutrition from its consumption. Junk foods such as cookies, chips and soft drinks contain low nutritional value (Health Foundation 2005). Therefore, junk food is being blamed for the rise of children’s health problems (Smith 2005). Thus, I strongly believe that the sale of junk food in school canteens should be banned because excessive consumption of junk food leads to health problems among children, litter problems and childhood attitude problems.

Firstly, the negative effect of the excessive consumption of junk food is that it leads to health problems among children. Junk food that contains high in fat, salts and sugar is usually contributes to obesity among children (Tran 2005). In future, it will leads to more serious health problems such as heart diseases, osteoarthritis and cancer (Tran 2005). Furthermore, the Dental Association is influencing the state government to ban the sale of soft drinks in school canteens due to the decreasing in childhood dental health (Weekend News 2005). According to Steven Reynolds, the sale of junk food in school canteens significantly influence the children thought that they can eat junk food anytime they want without any consequences (Weekend News 2005). Thus, the sale of junk food in school canteens should be banned to avoid any further consequences.

In addition, I strongly believe that the sale of junk food in school canteens should be banned as junk food contains chemical addictives that lead to behavioral problems among children. These chemical addictives are added into junk food to fuel up the taste and color (Smith 2005). However, these addictives cause children to be hyperactive and poor concentration during the class. Thus, their learning potential is decreased (The Food Show 2005). Children cannot get the sufficient nutrients they need for growth and healthy development if they eat too much of junk food (The Food Show 2005). Thus, reducing the sale of fast food in schools can improve their character and health (The Food Show 2005).

Moreover, junk food packaging also contributes to the litter problems in schools. Cans, crisp packets and plastic containers from junk food are not treated well by the students. As a result, the schools end up by having a dirty compound and cause inconvenience surrounding in schools. According to Smith (2005), litter problems reflect the bad image of our societies and schools have to spend more on the cleaning costs. Schools that have decline the sale of junk food in their canteens can reduce the litter problem (Smith 2005). The schools grounds man can have more time on maintaining the school’s project rather than cleaning the grounds for the whole day (The Food Show 2005). Thus, to ensure the school has a better environment, the sale of junk food in school canteens should be banned.

As conclusion, the sale of junk food in school canteens should be banned because the excessive consumption of junk food leads to childhood health problems. Apart from that, the chemical additives that are found in junk food lead to behavioral problems among children. Furthermore, the school needs to spend more money to ensure the school has better environment for effective learning. Thus, schools can take the responsibility to encourage the healthy eating habits by educating the youngster through food policies (Tran 2005). Last but not least, I strongly agree that the sale of junk food in school canteens should be banned.
