life is unpredictable......

Our Earth is getting warmer over the past few decades. Human have been artificially increasing the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere (Riebeek 2007). Human activities such as the burning of fossil fuels like coal, natural gas and oil give out greater amount of carbon dioxide into the air. As a result, the Earth is getting warmer as the atmosphere traps more sunlight (Woodford 2006). Hence, global warming can bring some negative effects in term of climate change and vital actions should be taken in order to save the Earth.

Firstly, the effect of global warming to the Earth is the climate change. The releasing billions of tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere had caused temperatures of the planet to increase (Riebeek 2007). The film An Inconvenient Truth (2007) mentions that the concentration of carbon dioxide in atmosphere now is above 300 parts per million. Temperature of Earth increases as the atmosphere traps more heat. It significantly changes the usual climate across the globe. For some places, global warming leads to more hot days and less cool days with the greatest warming on the land (Riebeek 2007).

Another consequence of global warming is the sea-level increase due to the melting of ice. Sea ice in the North Pole and South Pole are warming tremendously (Woodford 2006). An area of ice the size of Norway, Sweden, and Denmark is disappeared in the Arctic. According to the film An Inconvenient Truth (2007), the amount and the thickness of the Arctic’s ice cap is decreasing 40% in 40 years. Thus, due to the increasing of sea-level, people who live near the sea-level need to consider their home might be disappear underwater. In future, scientists believe that sea-level will continuously rise from 10 cm to 1 meter (Woodford 2006).

Other than that, global warming also causes some problems to human especially the poorest people. People from the poor countries do not have sufficient resources to keep away themselves from climate changes (Riebeek 2007). Moreover, global warming is predicted as one of the factors that caused the faster spreading of pests and diseases. For instance, Mosquitoes breed faster in higher temperature, spreading diseases to more people (Woodford 2006). It is believes that the number of new diseases will rise as the Earth is getting warmer. In addition, 30 news diseases are founded in the last quarter of century (An Inconvenient Truth 2007).

In addition, many species are now threatened with extinction and the ecosystem is disturbed as a result of global warming. With the faster increasing change of temperature, animals and plants may not be able to adapt quickly enough and many of the species become extinct (Woodford 2006). In order to survive, both plants and animals have started to migrate towards the poles, however, it is believes that most of these species face extinction because they cannot adapt to the new surrounding (Riebeek 2007).For example, polar bears depend on sea ice to hunt and move from one place to another. If all the sea ice is melts, it is afraid that the polar bears may not be able to survive.

As suggested by the main character Al Gore in the film An Inconvenient Truth (2007), he suggested that global warming can be reduced if we are able to produce fewer carbon dioxide emissions. We can use energy-saving fluorescent lamps instead of incandescent lamps. Walk or ride a bicycle instead of using car is the easier way to practice, significantly reduce the emission of carbon dioxide to the air (Woodford 2006). We also can buy energy efficient appliances and stop using air conditioner that releases harmful gases to the atmosphere.

Global warming causes havoc across the globe. The sea-level is increasing and the globe’s climate is significantly changes. The ecosystem is unbalance, plant and animal are believe to face extinction if global warming worsen. The most tragic effect from global warming is to the human itself. Because of greenhouse gases are long-lived, our Earth will continue to warm. However, our decisions control the degree of changes of global warming (Riebeek 2007). In the nutshell, as mentioned by the main character Al Gore in the film An Inconvenient Truth (2007), he says that ‘the solutions are in our hands, we just have to have the determination to make it happen’.
